Drifting through the endless cosmos,
staying the course on voyage to nowhere.
Then you felt a sudden jolt inside
On stealing glances at a passerby.

Next you know, you’re in a pull
with another eternal celestial drifter.
Your compass and poles go out of whack,
changing course in a sharp hard over.

At the whim of time, your orbits lock,
and the pull grows stronger, heavier,
wanting to crash into them and fuse.

The pull becomes a reckless tango,
your ecstasy tightens to an euphoric spin,
only to be cast away from their hold.

Waking from the dizzying vortex,
you wonder why their orbit repelled you.
Truth is, you fell in too close, too fast,
and bounced away faster than you arrived.

That reeling whirl shifted your polarity,
freeing you from their charm.

Now you drift again
into the endless vastness of time and space,
hoping to be caught in another cosmic pull,
stable enough to become a binary star.
